20 Feb 2020 In February 2020, the crude oil price decreased from the same month last the regular gasoline price in Hawaii averaged $3.600 per gallon,  According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the price of crude oil accounts for about 67 percent of the per-gallon gas price. Another 7 percent is based on the price to refine crude. Distribution and marketing account for 11 percent, and the remaining 15 percent comes from taxes.

US refineries run on the high end of that, averaging 19 gal Recently, that price has ranged between $50 and $70 per barrel, depending on the type of crude oil purchased. With crude oil at these prices, a standard 42 gallon barrel translates to $1.19 to $1.67 per gallon at the pump. Excise taxes add another 49 cents a gallon on average nationwide.
